The Philadelphia area has so much to offer families and having our Discovery Centre membership really helps a lot. We decided to head to Delaware to see their Natural History Museum. We really enjoyed it. They had a section on New Zealand and Australia that we had never seen before anywhere else. They also had a lot of interactive kids displays. The kids had a lot of fun trying to put shapes in holes in the dark. I had a great laugh at the faces they were making at me since I could see it outside. Ella enjoyed being creepy lol!
On our way back from Delaware we spotted a sign for Legoland. I had no idea there was one there. Sandy and I decided to look into it and with most Legolands you can usually find online deals for “kids go free”, so we took the offer and bought tickets. My favorite was the Miniland Philadelphia. I loved the Boston one when we went and enjoyed this one just as much. It is so amazing what they can do with lego. It was a great afternoon.
Our next day was going to be rainy so I decided to check to see what else our pass offered in the area. That was when we found The Academy of Natural Sciences Drexel. It was a big Natural History Museum with sections from all over the world. The kids loved it. They had a big Dino section as well. My favorite was the Butterfly Emporium. Love having butterflies all around you.
On our last day in Philadelphia we decided to let the kids plan the day. We plan to do that in Calgary as well. They search the internet for the area and decide what fun they want to have. They found a pool in the Fairmount Park, so we headed there for a swim. It was a great pool, busy and cold. They made it a few minutes before they decided that was it. The park was awesome though. They spotted people peddling a surrey and wanted to rent one to explore the park. Sandy and I loved the idea so we rented a double surrey and explored for an hour. What a beautiful area. We already plan to use Philly as a stopping point in future years and explore this huge park further.
We had such a great week in Philly. Definitely an area I would recommend for families. So much to do and I could not believe how easy it was to drive and find parking in that city. We had barely ay red zones of traffic and it was so easy to navigate. You would never guess its population is more than 1 million. What a great city!
