Birthdays are definitely one of my favorite things. I love celebrating and have for as long as I can remember. As a child we were always able to pick whatever birthday party we wanted and invite all of our friends. My Mom was born on Christmas Day, so birthday parties didn’t really happen for her, so she always made a big deal of our birthdays and that definitely stuck with me.
I have kept the same tradition with our children. Every birthday they get to pick all of their favorite meals for the day, choose a birthday party they want to have and invite all of their important people. I get as much, if not more excitement celebrating my kids birthdays as well as family and friends birthdays than my own day.
Don’t get me wrong though, I definitely love my own birthday as well. I try to fill it with all of the things I love, just like I do for the kids. Today was no exception and when it falls by a weekend, we celebrate all weekend long. 🙂 I had booked today off and it worked out perfectly that Noah had a class trip. I volunteered to be a chaperone and our day was spent at Noggins Farm and Grand Pre Historic Site.
I was a little worried because our first 2 hours were spent in the rain, walking trails through the woods and dykes. We were pretty wet, but thankfully the rain stopped and the rest of the trip was awesome. Noah was so excited to havethe whole day with me. He was pretty sweet about it. Lots of kids in the class wished me a Happy Birthday. I know some of them very well between my previous child care, sports Noah is/ has been in and the class trips I have done. They are a great group of kids.
After school pick ups were done, Matt, Christina, my Mom and Dad came over for ice cream cake. We had a great afternoon. For supper we had homemade donair oven subs.
After supper we went to my favorite ice cream place, Jonny’s and they had a new dip, peanut butter. It was an awesome cone! We met the Merrill family there and it was great to have some time with them today.
We decided to hit the shore, I really wanted to squeeze in one of my other favorites, the ocean. It was a perfect night, we went to Black Rock and for the first time I saw seals in the water. The kids were very excited. I was able to stick my feet in for the first time this year.
Another tradition is that every year on my birthday my Mom calls me at 9:59pm and wishes me a Happy Birthday. It was the time I was born. I always look forward to her call. It is always quick, but I love that she has done it for as long as I have been able to stay up that late.
Half my life ago 39 seemed so old. I had so many plans and felt like I needed to have so many more. It is amazing how none of those plans worked out and I am thankful for that. I love where I am in life at 39. I love that I am a huge work in progress, but that hasn’t stopped. I am still learning, growing, becoming a better mother, wife, friend, Christian each and every day. I am thankful for these 4 amazing kids & my awesome husband and everything they have taught me about myself and life. I love what I have accomplished in these 39 years and I am looking forward to many more birthdays to come. Thank you to everyone who was a part of my day by being with me or taking time to wish me a Happy Birthday. I appreciate all of you!
