A Boy with Big Dreams

Noah started playing basketball quite a few years ago. He was already in soccer at the time and we were simply looking for something else for him to do during the seasons where soccer wasn’t running. We decided basketball, because he knew a couple of friends playing at the time.

I was never a huge fan of basketball growing up. I knew some basics about the game and had a few favorite players back in the day, but I didn’t understand a lot of the calls. Luckily when Noah started, it was pretty basic and not much was called, so my knowledge worked. 🙂

I really didn’t think he would stick with it though, he seemed to really love soccer and he had already developed so many of those skills. Basketball was harder for him. A lot to learn and new skills to develop. He started picking it up though and his love for basketball began.

The next year we decided to put him in Acadia Minor and we couldn’t have been more thankful for that decision. He has been with his Coach Nick ever since. We started putting him in some clinics and the Steve Nash program that the Acadia Coaches & players put on every year. That is when his spark happened.

His Coach created a select team last year called the Spartans and during that season Noah advanced leaps and bounds. He also developed a huge love for the game. Sandy coaches as well which has been so great for both of them. He started watching basketball and now follows the Raptors and their players. (As I write this he is watching last nights game with Sandy, love hearing them talk about the plays) His favorite days of the week are basketball days and he can often be seen bugging Sandy to leave early so he can get more time in. He always stays late after practices!

As a family, his spark has been contagious. Sandy has always loved basketball, but now the girls and I also watch the games. We go to the Acadia games as well and the kids know all the players on both the men & women’s teams. They love cheering on their favorites.

Thankfully Noah is part of his select team again this year and he looks forward to their games and practices the most. He still plays with Acadia Minor as well since he wants as much basketball time as possible. Noah doesn’t just play basketball as a hobby. Noah really wants to play basketball as a career. He is very passionate about it and I am proud of him for his dedication and hard work. As a Mom, I couldn’t be more happy that he has found something he loves so much and seeing him work so hard to increase his skills makes me so proud. If you know anything about Fred VanVleet you may have heard how hard he worked to be in the NBA. Noah knows and loves his story. It inspires him.

Yesterday Noah had his best season game yet! He scored 27 points of their teams 48 points. He was so excited! This years season has really just begun so I am excited to see all his hard work come March. Way to go Noah!
