About 3 years ago, I had my own Day Home. No one can ever say I didn’t get the kids to wash their hands enough lol. My bathroom counter told the story. Most of the kids washing their hands were under the age of 5, so even though they were great hand washers, they often washed my counter too.
This wear over the years made me crazy, in particular where I had left the soap so it was an easy reach for the kids. It destroyed the finish and left a dull faded area of the countertop. I was disappointed considering the counter was only 5 years old.
We debated replacing it, but when Covid-19 hit the area, I decided it was a great time to look into a product my friend Candice had suggested. You basically repaint / refinish the counter. I ordered the kit on Amazon and it arrived very quickly.

I had a weekday off and I knew the kids had school work, so I decided to tackle it. The first step was to remove all the old caulking and give the counter a good cleaning / sos scrubbing. Next, the area had to be taped off and then I could apply the first layer of primer. It went on super easy and quick.
Next, it had to sit for 8 hours, so I decided to leave it and start the marble effect the next day. They give you multiple colors of paint depending on the color effect you want. I wanted more of a lighter color to go with the blue walls and dark cupboard. I put my first color on, which was a medium grey with a sponge. They give you a big sponge that you cut into pieces to use to create the marble effect. After the grey, I had 2 types of white that came on next. You work in a 2ft space at a time.
I had trouble at first trying to keep things even. Then realized, marble doesn’t have a pattern and I needed to get out of my perfectionist mode lol.
You have to let the paint dry for 4 hours and then you can start the clear coat. I applied 3 layers of clear coat over the next 2 days. I also used a fine brush before that to touch up some edging that you can’t reach with the sponge.
Overall, I’m happy with it. It was affordable, quick, other than the drying time. I probably only spent 2 hours applying products. It has also saved my sanity of no longer having to stare at the faded counter. The package comes with enough to do a huge counter area. We only used about 10%, so I plan on using it on other projects in the future.
