The other evening on one of our nightly walks we chatted about what would have been different if Covid didn’t exist. So much has been taken from us all by the appearance of Covid, it is sometimes really easy to list those things. We really have been trying to focus on what we would have lost if we didn’t have this shut down of all things.
Caile and I passed our 100 days of Yoga last week since all of this started. I mentioned in a previous blog post that when my chiropractor apt was cancelled, I went into panic mode. Without my appointments in the past, I risk barely being able to walk if I have another sciatic flare up, but mostly, I have shoulder / neck issues that without his help, I have had severe tightening.
I downloaded the Down Dog App and decided that even though I thought I hated Yoga, I would take his suggestion and try. Well Yoga isn’t what I really thought it was and it turns out, I love it. We do Yoga almost every evening, hence hitting our 100 day mark. We mix it up between different styles of Yoga and even purchased the App recently. It has saved me. I feel amazing. Normally as I approached a visit to my chiropractor, I could tell, I needed to be there. Every day I feel like I have just visited. One of my friends is training to be a Yoga instructor, so the other day we tried her session and loved it. I know for a fact, I would not be doing Yoga if Covid wouldn’t have changed things. But I do know that even as things open up, my routine will stay the same!
Noah loves biking! Recently he biked 20km with Sandy and a couple of friends. He is looking forward to more adventures over the summer and I am challenging myself to get back on a bike too! Excited to see where this may take our family.
Ella has been crocheting like crazy! She gave a number of her dish clothes to friends and family, but is now bundling up packages to sell and earn some extra money. She is going to expand soon and try making a blanket. She really loves how relaxing it is and a way to occupy home time without devices. I too love crocheting. I have lots of dish cloths now and I am not sure that my skill will expand, but I do enjoy sitting down each evening to this relaxing activity.
Caile has the best routine of us all. She is up every day early, has her morning work outs and is continuing to learn Spanish. I am confident she could now have conversations with some of my co-workers. I am trying to convince her to let me introduce her to some of their children, so she can practice with real people. 🙂 She has also inspired me to want to learn Spanish again.
Discovering Nova Scotia is our summer goal! We are all very bummed about not being able to spend a month in Calgary with our family. We have looked forward to this for years, but we can’t dwell on it. The money is there for when we are able to go and we will go when we can.
For now, we want to focus on having an awesome summer! Just in this past week we explored Baxter’s Harbour, the Gorge, Crystal Falls and Hidden Valley Falls. We have so many items on our list and it is great being able to be outside again with friends. No touching of course, but being able to be in this spaces and see everyone again has been so uplifting to us!

I am still most thankful for all the time with our kids. I know from already having 1 child out on her own and me being a Nana now, that life passes by so quickly! Our children are all entering their last chunk of years at home, so any extra time we get to spend, I will always be grateful for.
The kids have learned so many life skills. They were always good in the kitchen, but they can now all fend for themselves and make some amazing meals! We have all been gardening and expanding the areas of gardens that we had in the past. Our vegetable garden is in and we are excited to have lots of variety this year.

I know a Fall wave will come and things will start to shut down again. I am keeping a mental list of things and ways we can keep busy and not go crazy while we get ready to go through this again. We already repainted / touched up a number of walls inside the house, rearranged our bedroom for more space, etc. I need to be busy and these projects were things I wanted to do for years. It feels great to get them done, even if we will be the only ones to enjoy them for a long time lol.

For now, I am not focusing on what lies ahead, but instead being thankful to be outside enjoying what Nova Scotia has to offer with our amazing tribe of friends and family!
