A few weeks ago, our friends, the Fisher’s had a cupcake bake off, girls vs boys. My kids loved this idea and since that time wanted us to spend our next rainy day having a similar bake off. Today was the day! We divided into teams. Caile, Sandy & Noah vs Ella & I. We had to each find a recipe that we haven’t made in the past and keep it hush from the other team. We took turns in the kitchen making our various parts and ended up with 2 super yummy types of cupcakes.
Caile, Sandy & Noah chose to make a Chocolate Cupcake with a Strawberry filling, topped with a Strawberry Cream frosting. On the top was a chocolate dipped strawberry. Very yummy and tasted a bit similar to a black forest cake with the balance of chocolate & fruit.

Ella & I chose to make a S’more cupcake. It was a Chocolate Cupcake with a Milk Chocolate Ganache filling, topped with a Milk Chocolate Buttercream frosting and on the very top a Buttercream Marshmallow frosting. It was very rich and chocolatey, which of course made it 3/4 of the kids favorite.

Our family, as well as Nannie and Poppie each voted for their favorite. Nannie, Alex, Sandy and myself all preferred the Chocolate Strawberry Cupcakes. Poppie, Ella, Caile and Noah all preferred the S’more cupcakes, so it ended in a tie.

Both were delicious and it was a fun way to spend the rainy afternoon. We had a rule since Caile and I bake a lot, that we were not allowed to use any recipes that we have used in the past. Both teams ended up merging a couple of recipes that we found. Our next bake off will be themed “Cookies” and then we were thinking of “Squares”. It really is a fun way to discover some new recipes and challenge our baking skills!
