97 Years Young!

My Pop celebrated his birthday today… 97 years! He lives with my grandmother and my uncle in the home they raised their children in, the home my dad grew up in. It really amazes me to say this out loud. 97 years!

He grew up in a big family, well maybe not by the standard of those days, but our standards now. His father was a Pastor and he met my grandmother at church. They will celebrate their 73rd Anniversary this April.

I love their love and their faith. During my last visit my dad and I strolled over to the cemetery that is across from their house. This is where they’ll be buried. My Pop always helped the upkeep of the cemetery. Their stone is there now and it says “God is our pilot”. He really has been and I’m incredibly grateful for their life, love and example of God’s love.

I asked Pop the last time I saw him if he ever thought when he was younger that he would live to see 97. He said he definitely didn’t. I asked him if he could go back to any age, what would it be… he said his early 20s. It’s amazing how much has changed in his lifetime. I can only imagine how he feels about a lot of it.

He still has his sense of humor and the very best laugh. I think he thinks I love his jokes, but it’s honestly it’s his laugh that I love. He tells his joke and then he laughs so much at it. It is contagious and makes you want to laugh as well.

This was him telling his joke last year. I hope this always stays public. 🙂

I hope Pop had the best day today and was well spoiled. 💙
