Family Day Weekend is just what I needed!

Heritage Day or Family Day (depending on your province) has been a holiday for a few years now. For the past few years we booked a night away in Halifax with friends & family as something fun in the Winter stretch to look forward to. This year we didn’t plan a getaway and about a week before this holiday weekend, the kids started asking us for a PEI overnight getaway.

By now you know we are a basketball family and my kids especially love the Axewomen & Axemen. They knew they were playing at UPEI and thought it would be a fun getaway. We thought about the idea for the week and then Friday morning decided to book the night away. I am so thankful we listened to them. We left on Saturday morning and headed for PEI. We made a few stops along the way, but arrived in Charlottetown early afternoon.

The hotel we booked ended up not being able to accommodate us as they had no extra roll out beds. Thankfully we always book through hotels.com, so it was a simple call to get our refund and rebook a night on a suite that had opened up and ended up being a much better deal. Other than the headache of the time delay, it worked out in our favor.

We spent some time at the Mall and let the kids browse the stores. We found a few good deals and it was a good way to spend the afternoon. We grabbed some Subway and headed to the Inn where we would be staying the night. We checked in and it was a nice suite, not far from UPEI.

After supper we headed to see the games. We were dressed in our reds & plaids and found some seats behind the players, which is always our kids favorite place to sit. After a while the mascot who had been roaming around dancing in the aisles spotted us and I knew it would be over. What a fun mascot. I was literally in tears laughing as they danced all around us. During halftime the kids took part in a paper airplane fundraiser challenge and I loved watching the mascot with their Fortnite moves dancing along with kids as entertainment. The basketball games were intense and Acadia lost both, but it was awesome to watch the graduates play one last time.

We love all the family time we can get, so it was a great way to rejuvenate ourselves. We came back the next day to a busy afternoon of Noah’s basketball game, ticket selling for Caile for dance & Ella had a birthday party to attend. Although we were all different directions for the afternoon, we came together for supper at the Fisher’s. It was a fun night of food and games and it was great to have some time with them & the Merrill’s. I always look forward to these nights!

On Monday we had a more laid back day which was nice. Sandy and I made some Chinese food to get ready for a family supper with my parents, my brother Matt & Sister- In -Law Christina. I was looking forward to this as I have not seen them since Christmas. It was a yummy supper & after the meal Matt & Christina surprised us with their exciting news!

I am going to be an Aunt to a McComiskey baby! 🙂 I was beyond excited! I currently have 3 nephews & 2 nieces, as well as another nephew due in June and they are all on Sandy’s side of the family. I only have 1 sibling and this will be his first child! It may sound a little odd, but it is exciting to have a nephew or niece that may have the possibility of having some of my traits.

But on top of that, I am going to be an Aunt twice this year! Once to my Thomas baby nephew in June and then a McComiskey nephew or niece born in October! I love being an Aunt so much and am really looking forward to welcoming these babies this year!

What an amazing end to our Family Day weekend. I had all 3 days off and flex refreshed and full of energy to start the last chunk of Winter, which is now less than a month away!
