When I was 17 I hopped on the ferry in Yarmouth and headed for a 2 week vacation to visit my friend from Acadia in Boston. She picked me up in Portland and toured me around for the 2 weeks showing me lots of the city and surrounding areas. During my visit I wanted to see my Aunt Claire who lived in NH, so my friend planned a day at one of her favorite beaches, close by for after our visit.
It took me less than 10 seconds to fall in love with Hampton Beach. To this day, I can’t put my finger on what it is that makes Hampton Beach feel like home to me, but it does. After Caile was born, Sandy and I wanted to plan a vacation in New England. I instantly thought of Hampton Beach, so we booked a week long stay in a hotel on the beach.
It was amazing to take my family there and since that time, it has become one of our first stops when we cross the border. We have brought friends and family to the beach and the kids have so many great memories. It is a beach we all love.
Tonight my mind drifted to Hampton Beach and how much I miss the feel of the sand, smell of the water and the sight of that amazing beach. On our way home from the Ed Sheeran concert in 2018 we stopped at the beach before leaving New England. It wasn’t Summer, it was Fall, but we needed to walk the beach before heading home. I can’t be happier that we did, since little did I know then, that would be the last time I would be able to go back for many years.
Covid certainly has taught me a stronger appreciation and when I step foot on that beach again one day I will not take one moment of it for granted. In the meantime, I am thankful for all of these memories!
